Essendon Keilor College – Performing Arts Centre

The adaptive reuse of Essendon Keilor College’s heritage-listed hall carefully balances the retention of significant existing fabric with the introduction of contemporary educational, performing arts and community functions. The project retains and enhances the character of the original hall while incorporating a sympathetic extension that supports new uses without detracting from the building’s established architectural identity. Accessibility and internal flexibility are improved to better accommodate a wider range of activities and users. The renewed facility supports teaching, performance and community use within a more adaptable and functional setting, while extending the long-term life of the heritage building. Through a considered approach to new and existing elements, the project strengthens the hall’s role within the school while preserving its heritage significance.
